Our guardian angels are truly amazing. Every night before bed, my kids and I try to pray the Angel of God prayer for protection and a good night’s sleep. I’m convinced it is the reason they have never been seriously injured. There have been so many occasions where I have almost seen my children’s guardian angels pulling them back up when about to fall down a stair, pushing them away from the corner of the table, making me feel like a ninja when my hand suddenly flies out and catches someone mid-fall. I’m a total klutz, and my kids obviously inherited that lovely gene as well.
Besides saving us from frequent brushes with injury, guardian angels are amazing in other ways as well. Growing up, I was told that if you had a dream or thought about someone that you haven’t talked to in awhile, that was because their guardian angel was reminding you to pray for them. Every time it has happened to me, I’ve reached out to that person and, sure enough, they needed prayers about something.
On the subject of prayers, did you know that you can ask your guardian angel to finish your prayers for you if you fall asleep? During periods of great anxiety I fall asleep listening to the Rosary on YouTube, which calms my mind and even ends panic attacks when I experience them. How comforting to know that my prayers are being finished even as I sleep!
It has also been said that if you are unable to attend Mass for any reason, you can send your guardian angel in your place. It is especially comforting to me because as a sufferer of agoraphobia, I have been unable to attend Mass since Easter. As much as it kills me to miss Mass every week, it is so soothing to know that my guardian angel is going in my place.
The older I get, the more I grow to love guardian angels and all they do for us. As the above prayer says, they are with us every day to guide us, to protect us, to bring us closer to God.
