In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. 2 Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they hovered. One cried out to the other:“ Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts! All the earth is filled with his glory!” Isaiah 6:1-3
This is the only mention and description of seraphim angels in the Bible. From this, we understand there are more than one seraphim in heaven hovering above our Lord. Presumably, seraphim must be exceptionally glorious to look at/hideous to look at/in complete amazement of our Lord's beauty needing to cover their faces and feet. Upon further research, seraphim are the highest ranked in the choir of angels, therefore allowed such close contact with the Lord. Perpetually, the seraphim hover praising "holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts"; we here on earth praise the Lord walking by faith alone. Imagine how happy the seraphim must be seeing the glory of God.
When I read the Bible verse I can't help but remember the image of St. Michael in the film Michael. It is probably the worst example of St. Michael, but he was a seraphim and some imagery is applicable. At one point, John Travolta lands in front of his co-star, with his wings covering his face and feet. At times during the film, he is glorious in appearance. It is a modern, loosely based interpretation of age old writings. I imagine in reality it is going to be much greater in beauty.
What would you bring God if you could sit as His throne today?
Prayer to the Holy Angels
Bless the Lord, all you His angels, you who are mighty in strength and do His will. Intercede for me at the throne of God, and by your unceasing watchfulness protect me in every danger of soul and body. Obtain for me the grace of final perseverance, so that after this life I may be admitted to your glorious company and may sing with you the praises of God for all eternity. O all you holy angels and archangels, thrones and dominations, principalities and powers and virtues of heaven, cherubim and seraphim and especially you, my dear guardian angel, intercede for me and obtain for me the special favor I now ask (State your intention here...). Say 9 Our Fathers...
